Wk3 Fall 2020

This week I was not in the field because of an emergency surgery. So instead I will use this report as an update on things that I am doing outside of class. My main project right now is with Major Cline. He has asked me to use my computer aided design skills to help create holders for externally mounted items. These items add weigh and therefore effect the flight characteristics of the drone. With these mounted, flight speeds are taken and applied to computer models for predictive responses.

Selected 3D mount

So far I have repurposed a 3D printable camera mounted support our weights. I selected the one pictured above. It was printed in ABS at 20% infill. The ABS was the only thing available and there is no real change in infill between 20% and 50%, after 50% infill a model is functionally solid. In our lab we have 8oz aluminum ingots pictured below.

Half Pound Ingots being used

This is half a pound. These ingots are also imperfect and very heavily + 0.5 oz /- 2oz. Managing this I am able to pull together the weights I need for the two flight tests. This week we should be able to fly both the weighted and unweighted parts of the flights and my part is completed.
