The week 2 flight was held at Martel. This was also the first field operation for the graduate students search and rescue paper.
Martell Forest North Area |
The photo above shows the north section of the Martell Forest that we are flying in. The yellow box is the entire flight area flight area of the Bramor. The blue dot is the launch area and the red box is the recovery area. The red dot lower on the map is the launch point for the DJI M600 Pro that we fly. I was on the Bramor flight crew as the pilot in command and operated with Jeff as sensor operator and John as first officer. We flew at 500ft above ground level at 31 knots (35 mph) over the 120 acre area depicted above in yellow. 1131 photos were taken in this 50 minute flight . During this time the rest of the class was introduced to the crew resource management and checklist operations that take place during Bramor operations.
After the Bramor was recovered, the M600 Pro flew a small flight with the goal of providing hands on introduction to multicrew operations. We also introduced the metadata sheets that go along with every data collection operation. This sheet is a fill in the blank for things like take off time, data, altitude, image overlap and more. This is data about the data that is referenced by the processing team to get an understanding of what they are working with.
